Bayonetta 2 is a must if you didn't have a Wii U. Xenoblade 2 is good if you're in to huge JRPGs like that.

Speaking of, the final raid is kind of hilarious. It's basically just a damage race - it feels like it's going to be settled within 6-7 turns one way or another, lol.

Grats! Yakuza 5 is an absolute monster for completionists so it'll be interesting to see how the ACE OF GAMES fares against it.

Your thoughts on the game were fun to read - this is definitely a huge step up over 3 and Akiyama is one of my favorite characters in the series. Part of me wishes he had taken up Kiryu's torch but oh well, guess we'll see how cool Mr. New Protagonist Ichiban is whenever Shin Yakuza comes out.

I played SotN after the Sorrows and liked it way more

I'm in the same boat, actually!

Though I actually liked Aria more than Dawn, which I've noticed doesn't seem to be a super popular opinion. I'm wondering if I should revisit both of the Sorrows at some point and see what I think of them these days. Is anyone else Aria > Dawn, or can some Dawn folks talk up what they think the game does better? I remember Aria quite well but all that sticks with me from Dawn is (unfortunately) the boss sealing, lol.

We've cut it close a few times in the past but I legit think we have a chance of failing the red oni here, "lol."

If I had to guess as to why, I'd say a lot of folks are already done with their damage point requirements and have no reason to play any more. Like I'm already at 150 mil and that's without spending dumplings and being inefficient on top of it. I know I'd be kicking back if I already had my points. >_>

This is my ranking exactly, ^5.

DMC1 has outstanding atmosphere but the gameplay feels like it comes up really short in light of how CUH-RAZY the series is by this point. The Resident Evil puzzles, while admitedly pretty cool, feel like they're out of place.

DmC is a an above average action game but is really bad about representing anything about what DMC is supposed to be. (Color coded enemies and weakness-exploiting combat instead of free form styling on your foes are big missteps I can name without going in to too much detail.) That said, it's still admittedly pretty darn fun to play. I'd put it at about DMC1's level overall, personally.

DMC2 is... DMC2. I think it easily takes the cake as the worst PS2 game I've personally played.

DMC4 definitely has the best combat in the series but the content is literally the same stretch of levels over and over. Depending on who you ask, it's possible the game was less than half finished when Capcom wanted it released. Essentially gameplay-wise it's as good as it gets but outside of Bloody Palace you don't really have much quality content to flex that awesomeness in.

Foolmo has it right, the key to playing Nero is to use the skills that rev after every attack. You'll basically never want to manually rev unless it's during legit downtime between fights. Dante's gameplay is very much like DMC3 but even more refined and you can switch styles on the fly. It's fucking glorious.

The four other campaigns you're talking about are all literally exactly the same as Nero's. Dante's is part of the main story but you do the levels backwards. The other three were added in the much more recent special edition - Vergil just does a Nero run while the ladies switch places with the main crew, Lady doing the Nero run and Trish doing the reverse Dante run.

Here's hoping DMC5 can build on DMC4's excellent combat while actually having a completed, fleshed out campaign ala DMC3!

BotW is great. Not the best game ever but it's my #2 Zelda behind MM.

I had the same weapon durability complaints as many in this topic during my first couple dozen hours with the game, but I let go of the mindset of weapons having any real major value and hoooooly hell it made the game so much better.

You should maybe keep one or two weapons slot dedicated to big time weapons to use on huge threats, but everything else is 100% meant to be burned through as you fight. Grabbing stuff and breaking it over your enemy's head only to grab the next thing in the heat of the moment is super fun. Combat in general destroys every other Zelda to the point it's not even fair.

32GB of RAM is kind of a gross excess, it's not using anything past 7.6 because it doesn't need anything more. If your system is chugging, your RAM is most certainly not the problem.

It's really weird to me that people try to force themselves through games they actively dislike.

FWIW I think DDD is a huge improvement over BBS but if you're not having fun with a game you're wasting your time IMO. It is indeed hugely important for KH3's plot (like, the entire premise is mapped out in this game) so if you do intend to drop it I'd highly suggest watching the cutscenes on Youtube.

If you actually want to give the game a chance though I'd mirror prior suggestions that you step up your use of Flowmotion - the worlds and the combat are very much designed with it in mind so you'll have much more fun if you learn to use it. It makes the difference between being bored walking through huge worlds and zipping around like a maniac:

Yeah this stage is super breezy. Apparently Shiki can handle the next one pretty darn well but I doubt she'll be pumping out Euryale numbers.

I guess Scathach is potentially capable of legit 1HKOing the fourth and final raid? Those numbers are going to be hilarious to see.

Considering how amazingly terrible Capcom was a few years back, they have indeed turned it around big time. We went from looking like they were about to hit Konami tier to suddenly whiplashing in the opposite direction.

Rashomon was great on the challenge front besides the fact that an Ibaraki crit can ruin your run instantly and there was pretty much no way to play around it besides save scumming. Onigashima's raids are definitely too easy but I'm a little worn out from all the events lately so I'll take a quick and easy win over a well-earned victory right now.

Holy shit Euryale is a legit goddess.

Ran her with Tamamo + Waver and she can smack the blue oni for up to 3 million damage within three turns with just a non-MLB sumo and one bath CE. (With blue beans used, of course.)

Looking forward to a ton of other stuff though, honestly too many to bother to rank here but TLoU2, Cyberpunk, Sekiro, Metro and Smash all rank high.

Also practically quivering at finally being able to play PS3 Vesperia in English, though not sure that quite fits here since it's really just a localization of a 10-ish year old game. >_>

Yeah these last two events have been a bit rough for me. I've still cleared out everything I ought to but the game has really felt like a chore lately. I think I've discovered I largely want to spend my AP and be done with it - having me stick around for missions based on a secondary resource apparently crosses the line into spending more time on a phone game than I want.

Hoping Onigashima tweaks the flow enough to bounce back into being fun. At least Camelot is on the horizon and the story apparently becomes absolutely glorious at that point, so there's that to look forward to!

For sure! I think BBS shines in player interaction outside of combat whereas KH2 shines in combat - it's just a matter of what appeals to you more. Some people find that element of prep time enormously satisfying and will like BBS a ton more as a result.

Keep in mind for everything I typed up, I still think BBS is a really fun game.

I'm a gameplay guy so KH2 is quite easily the gold standard of the series for me. People are right to say it's not the most complex thing in the world, but the "mash X to win" thing so many folks have is also a big misnomer. I could go on for paragraphs about that but I started typing with the intent of talking about BBS, lol.

The Command Deck system is flashy and fun for a handheld but there is zero substance to it. The entire system is predicated around waiting for cooldowns on your broken shit rather than managing any kind of resource. Once you're far enough in the game you can even set up a chain that has no cooldown at all so you just end up spamming your best stuff with no cost at all.

That mixes together with other problems (game commits the cardinal ARPG sin of having bosses ignore basic system mechanics and break your combos for no reason at all) to make BBS an extremely shallow game. DDD is based on all the same ideas but adds more fun stuff like flowmotion and has infinitely better boss design... but it also has even more broken commands (Balloon line I'm looking at you.)

All of that said I'm willing to hand wave most of that since these two games were originally handheld games. I totally get that a lot of this stuff was there due to technical and probably practical limitations. If anyone had to fight Lingering Will on a PSP they'd probably snap the screen in half just from basic execution... but the flip side of that is we get Mysterious Figure which ranks among the worst designed ARPG bosses in history.

I can actually see Days ending up being somewhat important, but Recoded is totally skippable.

Assuming you've already played 1 and 2 and have no desire to replay:

Watch Back Cover

Play 0.2

And I'd say you're good to go. That's really only two handheld games you have to play so I'd say that's fully managable.

CoM (or Re: CoM in your case) feels skippable to me as it's only really critical to KH2, but if people are saying it feels important based on the trailers I'd be inclined to believe them. Up to you.

Most everyone in my IRL crew plays Smash in a competitive style (some at a competitive level, even) so the promise of big mechanics changes is enough to get all of us totally on board already. It may not seem like a big deal to you but that's the precise reason such a huge portion of that community still plays Melee.

If this game can close the mechanical gap between Melee and all the games that followed while also being the absolute definitive Smash game from a content perspective, it'll be a bloody enormous deal.

I said it in one of the other topics, but this looks like as much of a "deluxe port" as a new iteration of BlazBlue. Mechanics are hugely important in these kinds of games and this one looks like it's changing quite a bit.

SINCE I HAVE YOU HERE, who do you like more, Kiryu or Goro? Who's plot/game do you prefer in Yakuza 0? I have opinions.

I like Kiryu more as a character but that's a statement dripping with bias from all the other games, haha. Keep in mind even before 0 I'd played 5 games with Kiryu and he was already vying for the spot of my favorite video game protagonist.

I definitely think Majima has the better plot but they're both incredible in very different ways. Kiryu gets all the awesome interactions with Dojima's lieutenants and some other stuff I won't spoil but this really feels like the Majima story. Kiryu's rocking that path of manhood but that's kind of what he always does - Majima goes through some really heavy stuff in this game and it shapes who he is for the rest of the series.

First details and footage make it seem like as big of a jump as BlazBlue Continuum Shift -> Chronophantasma. Probably an especially apt comparison as both jumps increased the speed of the game by a bunch alongside mechanical tweaks across the board.

Yeah 0 is completely crazy. It instantly rocketed into my top 3 all time games and was the deciding factor in Yakuza bumping off MGS as my favorite series. Glad you're enjoying it so much!

As for Kiwami's length, it depends a lot on how much side stuff you do (as I'm sure you've realized by now with 0,) but overall it's a much shorter game. Like, maybe around half as long, give or take a bit?

Kiwami 2 is so close that you might as well wait and experience that story for yourself. FWIW it's still IMO the best story Yakuza has ever had. (With 0 very, very close behind.)

Only thing I might mention is that 6 might feel like a slight downgrade mechanically after Kiwami 2 since they apparently tune up the new systems a good amount there. Other than that though in your situation it should be a pretty good way to go.

Timeline wise it pretty much only makes sense for this to take place after 2, assuming 2 is still canon.

Dante's look here does match his DMC2 look pretty closely, and him bumming around in hell would explain his "mysterious disappearance" noted in the press kits. Who knows, though! I'm just excited to have him back.~

Nero's actually looking way more deserving of a main character spot based on his trailer, though, so it'll be neat to see how he's changed over the years. He was kind of a lamer in DMC4, despite how cool his arm was.

At least seeing HOW he would fight or shoot his gun would have been better. Just something. Anything unique. The only unique thing they had was him crouch walking while his little demon radar was going off. And that was hardly anything interesting or inspired, and if the segments in the game are like this and one wrong step has them all take you down and make you start over, that definitely doesn't inspire me much.

I know Kojima really wants to make movies but so far Death Stranding hasn't offered anything that is actually relevant to it being a video game. The fact that we're this many trailers in and don't have the slightest clue of how the game plays or what it involves is extremely worrying.

It's not even a matter of being "too weird," it's that it was literally nothing. We've had several trailers already - this was the first with ANY gameplay in it and it was just Norman Reedus walking around a bunch of completely empty areas.

Like Kojima's work has had such a huge impact on my life but he's just not giving me anything that tells me I have a reason to care about this game.
